Preliminary task

Post-Production

After we had finished filming all the shots that we needed, we imported them onto our computer and then we started to look at the clips and put them all together.
First we had to collect all the clips that we had and then delete the ones that we didn't need and start from the beginning clip and work our way through. We dint really focus too much on the dialogue yet because we just wanted to get the film flowing and then we would move onto the sound.
With one or two of the clips that we wanted to use we had to cut them so the scene would flow but in one clip the subject was in a different position so it didn't look 100% accurate.

After we had finished putting all the clips together we had to then sort out the dialogue. The first thing we did was find a clock ticking, and then make it louder because it was very quiet. But when the characters started to talk we still wanted the clock to be ticking. But when we actually watched the final film the clock didn't sound right it was too quiet and didn't fit in. Also the dialogue was quiet at some points because the camera was too far away from the character speaking so it would be quieter.
In one scene the character opens a door which we thought you would be able to hear but when we watched it back you cant really hear anything being opened. So if we had a little longer we should have added a door sound to add a better effect.

Overall I think the sound was good in our film, there were just a few parts that we could tweak to make it a little better.
Overall I think the editing was good and we had some good cuts and different editing techniques that looked good.

Preliminary task

Production

When we had finished the story board and were happy with it the next day we started to film out video. We knew where we had to go and what we had to do because of our story board. When we were filming we needed to remember to not go over the 180 degree rule otherwise our final film wont look right and it would be unfinished. We used  a tripod to be able to get still and steady shots which makes the film look more professional.
When we were shooting our film we had times where we had forgotten about the 180 degree rule so when we watched it back on the camera so we had to redo that clip again so It was all on the same side.
One other problem we had when we were filming was we turned the hall lights off and then realised it looked better for the scene. This meant that we had to redo a few shots because the lighting was different and would look out of place when we would watch it back.
Another problem that we had was when we did the focus pull we had to get the right speed because If it was too fast It would look out of sync, but if we did it too slow it would just make the shot even slower.

When we were shooting our film we had to take multiple takes for some of the scenes. Most of the time it was due to the fact that the actors kept on laughing or some one walked into the scene and you were able to see them in the background.

Overall I think we all did a good job at filming and that we followed the story board well and got the clips we wanted. If we had another chance I think we would only change a few things to make it better in some parts.

Preliminary task

Story board

This is my analysis of the video that we produced. I will state the good, the bad and the  improvements that we could use to be able to improve the clip.

We started off by creating a story board which would include saying what the shot type, the duration and the audio. We created a story board so when we started to film we knew what shot type was next and where it should take place.

This is the story board that we used when starting to create our video. We drew out our characters and the props that were going to use.

We used a story board so we were able to follow a format which let us know what shot was next and what props we needed.
This also meant we could follow something when we were shooting.

This was the second page of thee story board. This is when the second character walks  into the room and sits down on the chair. We were going to add a clock ticking in the background whilst the characters are speaking to each other.

This is the last slide of our story board. This just shows us what the next shot needs to be.  We just used simple drawings so it wouldn't make it to simple.

Story board

In class we were asked to create a story board to the film Gladiator.
We were given photos of the first 3 minutes, and we had to say what the camera type would be, what the audio would be and then what the action would be in this little section.
We did this exercise to get us ready for when we would need to produce our final beginning of our film.

Camera – Close up tracking shot of the ring.
Audio – SFX ; Sound of the Children playing, and a  women is singing

Action – Man walks thought field brushing his hand over wheat grass.

Camera – Medium close up because you are able to see the shoulders.

Audio - Sound – Of the wind
Action – Lost in the thought

Camera – Wide angle of the battlefield

Sound – Horses trotting and breathing of the horse’s  – and the guitar.

Action – Getting ready for the battle. Horses charge thought the shot.
Crane to next frame.

Creating my own horror poster
In class I was set a task with a partner to create our own horror posters. we wanted to make the mask more realistic by using blood that the teacher had brought in and used it to make the eyes more blood shot. We also used it around the mouth so I looked like he had just eaten some one. We wanted to try and find a location in the school where there was very little light to make the picture look better. We ended up using the hall which had black curtains which they use for plays. We went behind them so there was very little light showing and took photos of my partner wearing the mask.

These are some of the photos that we took in the hall. These photos are the ones that we didn't use because they had something wrong with them, for example the lighting, the body position or the background. With this one we didn't use it because the lighting only shows one side of the mask's face because the light was aimed at the right side (from the viewers perspective).

With this photo we didn't like how the lighting was too strong on just the left side of his face. We wanted there to be very minimal lighting so it would make the poster look scarier then having the whole mask light up which in this photo most of the mask is light up.
We ended up using this photo for our poster because we both agreed that the lighting, body position and background were all how we wanted them to be so we ended up editing this one for our final poster. We liked this photo because of how the lighting isn't too overpowering and we liked how one side of the face is darker from the light but isn't too dark so you are unable to see it. We also liked the fact that you are able to see the eyes of the subject in that is wearing the mask, which we both thought made it look more realistic.
When we started to edit the photo we wanted to make the mask look darker and more realistic. First we made the grey t-shirt darker so its harder to see and then we edited to face. We wanted the face to be more of a pale red colour so it looked more realistic. When in Photoshop we used the hue/saturation too to make the reds of the blood stand out.  We also used the sharpen tool on the mask, to emphasise the wrinkles on the face to make it look more realistic.

This was our very nearly finished poster that we had made in class. All we had to do next was to add a billing block, release date, ratings and the tagline. We wanted to use a red colour for the font because we thought get would go well with the blood on the witches face. We also added a another face that is faded in front of the main face to look like she is shaking her head and to make it more interesting, rather then just having the simple one face like we had on the other stage.

Evaluating my Dialogue video

In media we were set a task to create a small video that had dialogue in it. Although we completed the small clip there were some problems with our final outcome. One problem which the clip was that you could hear the background noise like the wind and people talking which distracts you from the conversation between the two characters. Another problem that we had was when we used a wide angle shot of both of the characters, the audio was very quiet and muffled because the camera was too far away from the characters. So if we were to do this again we would have to use a external microphone so we are able to capture the dialogue and not be to quiet. In our clip we ended up using music to try and get rid of some of the background music, but the music ended up being to loud so we  you weren't able to hear some of the speak within the  two characters.
Mise-en-Scene

This is a shot of Casino Royale (James Bond) which shows different aspects of mise-en-scene. In this shot it has low key lighting to be able to show the little help he has. There are beam of light that is in the background can show that he has been taken away from his life and that he is going to be killed. This could also show that he has a hope because the beam of lighting is shining down on him and that he has hope. this could also be seen that he is the hero because the light is shining on him.
The light that is being used is the key light that because the light is directly pointed at the subject.  Another Mise-en-scene technique is props. The props in this shot show that antagonist (Mads Mikkelson) has more power because he has a rope which is a prop and James Bond is unarmed and tied to a chair. This shows that he has less power because he has no weapon to fight back with.
In this scene the setting very isolated because they are in a empty run down boat where Bond is nowhere near any help. The costume and props is important in this scene because the antagonist is dressed in black, which can represent that he is evil.  James Bond is naked and tied down to a chair which can show his vulnerability.
